DSE turnover crosses Tk 1,000cr after five sessions

Though the indices gained in the last three working days, the turnover in terms of money was on a slide. But on Thursday, the last working day of the week, turnover increased.

After five working days, the turnover or the value of shares traded on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has once again crossed Tk 1,000 crore. Earlier on October 18, Tk 1,006 crore worth of shares were traded.

Also, all the indices of the DSE gained on Thursday despite most of the stocks either falling or remaining unchanged.

At the end of the day, DSEX, the benchmark index of DSE, increased by 34 points or 0.53 percent to settle the day at 6,378.

Among other indices, the Shariah-based DSES rose by 9 points or 0.67 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 was up 17 points or 0.74 percent.

The value of the shares traded on DSE was Tk 1,095 crore, up by Tk 353 crore from the previous working day.

Shares of the 351 companies traded on the day, of which 73 firms gained, 59 issues lost and 219 companies remained unchanged.

The paper and printing sector rose to the top position in terms of transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 214 crore, which was 21.38 percent of the total turnover.

The miscellaneous sector was in the second position with Tk 146 crore turnover, followed by the pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector at Tk 142 crore.

Shares of Sonali Paper were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 126.46 crore were traded on the day.

Beximco Limited, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 64.47 crore followed by Orion Pharma, Intraco Refueling, Sea Pearl, Sino Bangla, Eastern Housing, Paper Processing, Monospool and KDS Accessories.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) increased over 102 points to 18,780 and securities worth Tk 24.66 crore were traded on the day.
