Munia’s unexpected death: Legal actions will be taken, says home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal has said that necessary legal action would be taken against the people involved in pushing up Mosarat Jahan Munia to the end of her life.

“One thing is clear. Law will take its own course,” Kamal came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his residence in the capital's Dhanmondi on Wednesday.

It is under investigation, Kamal said adding that the culprit must be brought to book for justice.

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir was sued on Tuesday on the charge of abetment of suicide of Munia, a college girl.

Nusrat Jahan, sister of the deceased, filed a case with Gulshan Police Station on Monday night against Anvir on the charge of incitement to commit suicide of her sister Munia.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Tuesday issued a travel ban on Anvir so that he cannot leave the country.

According to the case statement, Mosarat Jahan, 21, was a second-year student of the Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College.

Munia met Anvir, 42, accused in the case, two years ago. Since their introduction, they used to meet in different restaurants and talk on mobile phones all the time. At one stage, a love affair developed between the two.

Punishment for abetment of suicide:

According to section 306 of the Penal Code, if any person commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
