Met Office issues heatwave alert for next 72hrs

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today issues a country-wide third-phase heat wave alert message for the next 72 hours.

In the latest heat wave alert Meteorologist Khandoker Hafizur Rahman said, "The prevailing heat wave over the country may continue during the next 72 hours commencing on Sunday.

He said the heat wave is likely to continue till Tuesday morning.

Due to increased moisture incursion, the discomfort may increase, said the message in detail.

Earlier, the BMD issued a 72-hour heatwave alert for the second phase on April 25.

The BMD in its latest bulletin said a very severe heat wave is sweeping over the district of Chuadanga and severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore and Kushtia.

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka and Barishal divisions and rest parts of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and the districts of Dinajpur, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni and Bandarban and it may continue.

It also said that rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places.

The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, said the BMD bulletin.
