Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said that the first set of the metro-rail coach will be taken at Uttara deport on Friday.
The progress of metro rail constructing work is over 61.49 per cent and it is a major development in the country’s first-ever metro rail project, Quader said, while addressing a virtual programme.
The first set out of the six coaches of the train reached the newly constructed jetty on DMTCL near the metro rail depot at Dhaka’s Diabari on Wednesday.

Quader said that Japan had already shipped the second metro train set from its Kobe Seaport on Wednesday. "Hopefully, we will get the coaches at Diabari deport through Mongla port by June 16,"

June 11 and August 13 have been fixed as the probable dates for the shipment of the third and fourth sets of train and these will reach Uttara deport by August while the fifth set of the metro rail is expected to reach Bangladesh by September 17, he informed.

There will be a total of 24 sets of the metro train with six coaches each and each coach has an accommodation capacity of 2,308 passengers, the minister said.

The progress of the first phase work -- Uttara to Agargaon -- is 83.52 per cent, the second phase -- Agargaon to Motijheel -- is 57.68 per cent and progress of the electrical, mechanical and others is 52.22 per cent, Quader said.
