DSE turnover rises 53% in last week

Dhaka stock market behaved positively in the last three trading days in the last week amid the weakening economic outlook globally and domestically.

As a result, investors got back some confidence, which was also reflected in the indices and turnover, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data showed.

Share prices of more than 100 companies gained in the week under review. have been included in the price hike list.

The DSE had a turnover of Tk 5,472 crore last week, which was Tk 1,889 crore or 52.72 percent more than a week ago.

The average turnover on the DSE was Tk 1,094 crore per working day, up by nearly 53 percent from the previous week’s.

Besides, the market capitalisation of DSE increased by around Tk 5,000 crore in the last week. The market capitalisation of DSE stood at Tk 7,74,298 crore on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index of DSE, the DSEX was up by 32 points, or 0.51 percent, to 6,410 at the end of the week.

Among other DSE indices, the shariah-based DSES increased by 1 point or 0.10 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 rose by 13 points or 0.67 percent.

A total of 389 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week. Among the companies, the share price increased by 121, declined by 46, and remained unchanged by 222.

Beximco Limited’s shares were the most traded on the DSE last week. During the week, the company’s share turnover was Tk 404 crore, which is 7.38 percent of the total turnover.

Shares of Orion Pharma came in second place with a turnover of Tk 258 crore followed by Navana Pharmaceuticals, Eastern Housing, Genex Infosys, Bashundhara Paper Mills, Intraco, BSC, Sea Pearl, and Anwar Galvanizing.

Meanwhile, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the overall index CASPI increased by 165 points or 0.88 percent to 18,945 during the week, and Tk 156 crore worth of stocks were traded.
