DSE market cap sheds Tk 442cr in a week

The country’s capital market was bullish on three of the five working days of last week (October 23-27).

However, at the end of the week, there were more stocks were on the list of losers than gainers resulting in the market capitalisation of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) decreasing by more than Tk 400 crore in one week.

The market capitalisation of DSE stood at Tk 7,69,465 crore by the last trading day of last week, which is Tk 442 crore less than the last working day of the previous week.

The DSE had a turnover of Tk 3,583 crore last week, which is Tk 2,217 crore or 38.23 percent less than the previous week.

Along with this, the average turnover on the DSE was Tk 717 crore per working day, which is about Tk 443 crore or 38.23 percent less than the previous week.

Meanwhile, the benchmark index of DSE, the DSEX was down by 14 points, or 0.22 percent, to 6,378 during the week.

Among other DSE indices, the shariah-based DSES decreased by 5 points or 0.32 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 fell by 12 points or 0.52 percent.

A total of 384 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week. Among the companies, the share price increased by only 71, declined by 84 and remained unchanged by 229.

Beximco Limited’s shares were the most traded on the DSE last week. During the week, the company’s share turnover was Tk 327 crore, which is 9.13 percent of the total turnover.

Shares of Orion Pharma came in second place with a turnover of Tk 205 crore followed by Sonali Paper, Sea Pearl, Intraco, Anwar Galvanizing, Eastern Housing, ADN Telecom, Orion Infusion and JHRML.

Meanwhile, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the overall index CASPI decreased by 21 points or 0.11 percent to 18,779 during the week and Tk 92 crore worth of stocks were traded.
