DSE turnover crosses Tk 2,000cr again

After two sessions, the turnover on the Dhaka bourse has once again exceeded Tk 2,000 crore as textile stocks pushed indices to a five-day rally.

On Wednesday, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) had a turnover of Tk 2,005 crore, which is Tk 236 crore more than the previous session. Earlier, on August 28, more than Tk 2,100 crore was traded on DSE after a very long time.

The textile sector played a major role in propelling the rise in transactions. The total turnover in this sector was Tk 376.8 crore, which is 19.54 percent of the total turnover. But, the share price of most of the companies in this sector declined on the day.

The pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector was at the second position with Tk 252.51 crore turnover, followed by engineering sector at Tk 229.37 crore.

In terms of price increases, general insurance performed the best. Out of 41 companies in this sector, share prices increased by 38, declined by 2 one remained the same as the previous day.

Most companies in the energy, engineering, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and banking sectors also advanced on the day. However, the rate of increase in banks’ share price was very low.

At the end of the day, DSEX, the benchmark index of DSE, increased over 24 points or 0.37 percent to settle the day at 6,457.

Among other indices, the shariah-based DSES rose by 2.38 points or 0.17 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 was up by 3.73 points or 0.16 percent.

Shares of the 380 companies were traded on the day, of which 179 firms gained, 135 issues lost and 66 companies remained unchanged.

Shares of LafargeHolcim were the most-traded by value on the DSE as its shares worth Tk 97.43 crore were traded on the day.

Beximco Limited, which was the second most-traded stock, had a turnover of Tk 74.55 crore followed by BSC, Orion Pharma, Makson Spinning, Eastern Housing, Malek Spinning, National Polymer, Delta Life and Intraco Refueling.

Meanwhile, the overall index CASPI of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) increased over 107 points to 19,005 and securities worth Tk 70.69 crore were traded on the day.
