Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Vikentevich Mantitsky has said that his country will export three lakh tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh to support the country’s effort to ensure food security.
The Russian envoy came up with the announcement after emerging from a meeting with Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder at his Secretariat office in Dhaka on Thursday.
The ambassador, however, did not make it clear when the wheat will be exported to Bangladesh.
There is a huge potential of trade and investment between Russia and Bangladesh and using the opportunity, Russia is interested in playing a role in achieving food security in Bangladesh, he said.
Besides, Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that both the countries have reached a decision on wheat export to Bangladesh.
The commercial relationship between the two countries is being expanded gradually in many areas, especially in trade and investment, Majumdar said.
The wheat export from Russia to Bangladesh will play a significant role in developing the bilateral relations between the two countries, said the food minister.
