Bangladesh on Sunday logged nine more coronavirus-related deaths with 864 new cases in the past 24 hours till 8:00am, according to government data.

Continuing the downward trend, the daily positivity rate again declined to 4.01 percent from Saturday’s 4.15 percent, and Friday’s 5.48 percent, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a handout this afternoon.

On Saturday, the infection rate dropped below 5 percent indicating that the country has overcome the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

With the updated official statistics, the death tally of the virus rose to 29,033 while the caseload reached 19,42,680, said the DGHS.

Bangladesh registered eight Covid-linked deaths with 759 cases on Saturday.

Since the outbreak of the virus at Wuhan province in China in 2019, the health authorities in Bangladesh confirmed the first case on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 in the same year.

Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, has so far recorded 5,965,205 deaths so far caused by the virus and 435,199,194 cases worldwide.
