Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved a Tk 8, 00,000 crore budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year to be placed in the parliament on June 6, according to a source within the finance ministry.

Sheikh Hasina supported the idea of discouraging the import of luxury goods in the upcoming budget and priority has been given to control of inflation in the budget, said the source.

She wanted to see whether the election manifesto is being reflected in the first budget of the current period and she expressed her satisfaction over the allocation in this regard in the budget set up by the finance ministry.

The summary of the budget for FY2024-25 was presented in a meeting held at Ganobhaban on Monday with the prime minister in the chair.

Planning Minister Major General (Retd) Abdus Salam, state minister of finance Waseqa Ayesh Khan, state minister of planning Md. Shahiduzzaman, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukdar, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem, Finance Secretary Dr. Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder along with the senior officials of the finance division, ministries of finance and planning were present in the meeting.
