E-ticketing system will be introduced in Dhaka’s public transport from January 31 in a bid to reduce suffering of the commuters, Khandaker Enayat Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Owner Association, said on Saturday.

Irrigational competition in the transport sector will be erased and the running of vehicles on a contractual basis will be stopped under the system, he said while addressing a press conference in Dhaka.

Alongside the e-ticketing system, a monitoring cell will be formed to bring discipline in the transport sector, Khan said, adding that indiscriminate parking and stoppage of public transport will go off in the capital if the system is introduced.

Buses of 30 companies will come under the e-ticketing system in Mirpur area from November 13 and all public transport in the capital will be brought under the system from January 31, he said.

Apart from this, the buses of 97 companies will also come under the system in Dhaka and Chattogram from February 28 next year to make the effort successful, said the transport leader.
