Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) claimed to have arrested Nayeb-e-Amir of militant group Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya from Sayedabad area of Dhaka.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the CTTC conducted a drive at Sayedabad bus terminal area on Tuesday evening and arrested Mohibullah alias Bholar Shayekh, Nayeb-e-Amir of the militant group.

The law enforcement agency also recovered two mobile phone sets and a laptop from his possession, Md Asaduzzaman, chief of the CTTC unit said this at a press briefing held at DMP media centre on Wednesday.

During the press briefing, Asaduzzaman said Mohibullah used to deliver his sermons and inspire members of the militant group after taking them to the country’s hill districts.

His main target was to prepare them to take part in jihad after misinterpreting religious scripture, said the CTTC chief.

Mohibullah lives in Chattogram hilly area and comes to Dhaka frequently to carry out different activities including intensifying communication through encrypted messaging apps, he said.

Mohibullah also held meetings with top leaders of militant groups for strengthening activities in Dhaka, Sylhet and Kishoreganj.

To make his mission a success, he often visits Hathazari madrasa of Chattogram, said Asaduzzaman.

Mohibullah was also an active member of the banned extremist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh (HuJI-B) when he was a student of a madrasa in Hathazari and received jihadi training with other members of the militant group.
