As the fight between the Israeli forces and Hamas enters its 8th day, some 29 Democratic Senators in the USA have signed a letter on Sunday, calling both parties for ‘an immediate ceasefire’, reports The Jerusalem Post.

The ongoing fight took around 200 lives, mostly Palestinians, including many children.

“To prevent any further loss of civilian life and to prevent further escalation of conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories, we urge an immediate ceasefire,” the senators said in a joint statement led by Jon Ossoff, the first Jewish senator from Georgia.

Of the other senators who signed the letter include, Cory Booker from New Jersey, Bernie Sanders from Vermont, and Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts.

US President Joe Biden on Sunday said his administration is working with Israel, the Palestinians and other countries to restore calm. He said this in a video message for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

“We believe Palestinians and Israelis equally deserve to live in safety and security, and enjoy an equal measure of freedom, prosperity and democracy,” said Joe Biden.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke on Sunday with senior officials from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar about the situation.

Israel’s Ambassador to the US and UN, Gilad Erdan, addressed the UN Security Council on Sunday accused Hamas for firing deadly missiles at Israeli civilians.
