An illegal cattle head market has concerned neighbourhoods as it obstructed traffic movements and caused discomforts to them, residents said.
The market, along Mirpur Section 14 to Kochukhet Bazar, has not obtained any permission from Dhaka North City Corporation, a DNCC official said.
A salesman of a local clothing shop said this cattle market has nearly shut his sales.
“We came to know that Mayor Atique has fined Gabtoli Cattle Market leaseholder Tk 10 lakh for some rule violations. Is he not seeing this?” asked another resident, requesting anonymity.
Business Insider Bangladesh found that vehicles were not able to ply because of the cattle head market.
Contacted, DNCC chief revenue officer, Mohammad Mojammel Hoque, said Dhaka Cantonment Board has leased out the place for holding the makeshift cattle market.
“We have written to the Cantonment Board about it. They did not respond, yet,” Hoque told Business Insider Bangladesh on Monday.
