The government is going to introduce business identification numbers for e-commerce entrepreneurs within two months, Commerce Ministry Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said on Sunday.
Tapan Kanti Ghosh came up with the announcement after a meeting with an e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh team when the latter called on him at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
All the e-commerce platforms including controversial Evaly will be brought under a regulatory system soon, he said. The e-commerce platforms including those who run their business only through Facebook marketing will be asked to submit their future business plans in line with the government directives issued on July 4, the secretary said.
“If the e-commerce firms fail to comply with the order, they will have to face legal action,’ he said.
Regarding Evaly, which business policy has recently come under the government surveillance following widespread complaints, the secretary said the government will take steps according to law. Clients also have right to seek legal action against Evaly, he added.
Muhammad Abdul Wahed Tamal, e-Cab secretary, led the association team at the meeting.
