The government has decided to continue the probe into complaints lodged against Evaly, an online shopping mall.

The commerce ministry on Tuesday ordered the Directorate of National Consumers’ Rights Protection to continue its investigation into the complaints that are on the rise.

According to the Directorate of National Consumers’ Rights Protection, so far a total of 2,180 complaints have been lodged against Evaly. Of which, 1,791 complaints or 82 percent have been resolved.

“Still, there are 388 complaints remained unresolved. So, the authorities will continue its efforts to solve the complaints,” said the commerce ministry letter sent to the Directorate of National Consumers’ Rights Protection.

Evaly is an e-commerce site, which is capable of providing every kind of goods and products from every sector to consumers located in Bangladesh, according to its website.

It used to offer consumers ‘cash back’, as high as 150 percent, which has been banned by the government.

Thousands of purchasers are being lured in by the unbelievable offers. Some are making profits, but most are not, customers said.

Asked, Ehsan Sarwar Chowdhury, executive director of Evaly, told the Business Insider Bangladesh, “We are yet to get any complaints from customers.”

“Unless we are officially informed, we cannot make any comment on the issue,” Chowdhury said.
