Bangladesh and Fiji share potentials to deepen bilateral ties

Bangladesh and Fiji have potential to enhance the bilateral ties through exchanging agricultural assistance. 

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation was finalised on Monday, the second day of Bangladesh High Commissioner Mohammad Sufiur Rahman’s three-day visit to Fiji.

He held separate bilateral meetings with Fiji’s Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Commerce, according to a statement.

During a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Dr. Mahendra Reddy, emphasis was placed on deepening the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Fiji through cooperation in agriculture.

The Bangladesh high commissioner said that Bangladesh gained unprecedented success in agriculture in the last decade.

Dr Mahendra Reddy said the country is stressing on commercial agriculture for bringing success in this sector.

He also pointed out initiatives taken by the government to attract investment in the agricultural sector of Fiji.

In another meeting on that day, the Bangladesh high commissioner and Fiji’s Minister for Commerce Faiyaz Koya discussed enhancing the existing trade and investment facilities of both the countries.

Koya invited Bangladesh to avail the investment benefits in the country.

On the other part, the Bangladesh high commissioner said Bangladesh is exporting newer goods and has gained success in exporting ready-made garment, agriculture, medicine, IT and IT-enabled services.
