Bangladesh has received an offer from Russia to buy its crude oil, said Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources.

He came up with the disclosure on Monday while inaugurating a workshop titled “Cyber Security in Power Division and Operational Viewpoint” in the capital.

However, it was not clear whether Russia offers any discount like India to sell crude oil as it needs foreign currency to avoid default.

"Bangladesh is assessing the proposal," said the state minister.

“We have a reasonable stock of oils. However, we are also exploring alternative sources,” Hamid told the workshop held at Biddut Bhaban.

The state minister also confirmed that the government will not hike oil prices at the moment. He also hinted that people won’t be burdened with gas and electricity prices.
