A new border haat with India will be set up along Sajek in Khagrachari district to enhance overall communication and trade activities between the people of India and Bangladesh, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.

The minister said both Bangladesh and India agreed on Mizoram proposal to set a border haat along Silsury (India) and Sazek (Bangladesh).

Munshi came up with the information after signing a joint statement in Mizoram state of India on Monday with R Lalthangliana, Mizoram minister of commerce and industries, claims a statement from the commerce ministry.

He said, “Bangladesh has significant trade potentials with Mizoram and this is possible to export various products to this Indian state as per demand. The products include readymade garments, construction materials, plastics and food products.”

“Alternatively, we can import products and goods including stone, turmeric, ginger, pepper, bamboo, among others. The setting up of the border haat will further enhance Bangladesh's bilateral relations and trade relations with Mizoram,” added Tipu Munshi

R Lalthangliana, Mizoram minister of commerce and industries said, “Using Chattogram port and other water ways, there is an option to increase freight and trade activities between Bangladesh and India. Border haats will enhance mutual communication between people of both the countries alongside rising potentials for trade and commerce.”

Bangladesh shares 318 kilometers of border with this Indian state.
