From now and on Bangladesh authority will get 15 percent tax from the advertisements going to Google and Amazon, two of the world’s biggest tech companies.

The development came after these two companies have recently been registered with the National Board of Revenue for paying the value added tax the revenue authority announced to impose in April 2018.

Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said such a move by foreign tech giants is appreciated.

"These companies have to operate under the law of the land. It is good to see that they are coming under legal periphery," Jabbar told the Business Insider Bangladesh.

"I also believe it will help us to build a win-win relationship with such companies in the coming days," he added.

Facebook, the largest platform for advertisements from Bangladesh is yet to take the Business Identification Number or BIN from the NBR as it has been taken by Google and Amazon.

Stakeholders said though advertisements will be more expensive from now and on, it is good that global giant companies have come under the law.
