4G service in Bangladesh needs improvement: Huawei officials

There is a lot of scopes for the improvement of 4G service in Bangladesh, officials of Huawei said on Wednesday

There is a lot of scopes for the improvement of 4G service in Bangladesh, officials of Huawei said on Wednesday.

Their observation came a few days after the government had allocated additional spectrum to the mobile phone operators to improve service quality and plans to launch 5G service in the country by 2023.

They were attending a virtual discussion after Huawei’s annual report for the year 2020 was disclosed at an event in China.

Huawei Asia Pacific Vice-President Jay Chen said Bangladesh’s subscribers largely rely on 4G technology. For that reason the country has a lot to be done to improve the 4G service, he said.

Huawei Asia Pacific Chief Digital Officer and Executive Consultant Michael Macdonald said that the year 2021 would be prospective for the entity in the Asia Pacific region as many of the countries are yet to launch 5G service.

As per a Huawei statement, the operator’s year-on-year global sales revenue rose by 3.8 per cent to Tk11,53,000 crore in 2020.

Besides, the entity’s net profit grew by 3.2 per cent to Tk83,500 crore year-on-year in 2020.

Huawei deputy chairman Ken Hu said, ‘Over the past year we have held strong in the face of adversity.’

‘We have kept innovating to create value for our customers, to help fight the pandemic, and to support both economic recovery and social progress around the world,’ he said.
