The government has declared bdapps, a mobile application platform developed by operator Robi, as the national app store.

To this end, the ICT division and Robi signed a letter of intent in this regard at ICT Tower in the capital on Thursday, said a press release.

ICT Division’s Additional Secretary Dr Bikarna Kumar Ghosh and Robi’s Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed inked the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

“From now on, app developers from any organizations can upload their apps on this platform,” State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said.

The ICT division will manage tax waiver on the developers’ income and value-added tax exemption on the developed applications, he added while addressing the signing program.

Developers can sell their apps through the platform, the release said, adding that it will help the country's ICT innovation and entrepreneurship develop fast, as well.

"This initiative will also facilitate the developers’ training in association with the ICT department,” Palak said.

Acknowledging the tremendous progress of the bdapps, he said that the platform would be a great tool for the young tech-entrepreneurs to make their bright careers.

Under the agreement, the ICT division will also collaborate with bdapps to organise exclusive boot camps and events in government universities across the country. The events are expected to explore potential digital entrepreneurs.

“Working with the ICT division will boost up our dream to build a self-sustaining app industry for the country,” Robi’s Managing Director and CEO Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said.

“We are also delighted to announce that bdapps is going to launch a seed funding program for its developers,” he added.

The bdapps currently has over 12,000 developers and over 23,000 apps, while about 20 per cent of the apps were developed by women, the release said.

Each of the developers is earning Tk20,000-30,000 per month on overage.

The bdapps so far have disbursed more than Tk55 crore, the release said.
