Morocco stunned Belgium as they beat the second-ranked team by 2-0 in their second group-stage match at the Al Thumama Stadium on Sunday. The African side won a World Cup game for just the third time in their history.

Morocco fully merited this victory over a stilted Belgium side. The Atlas Lions were defensively resolute and scored through Abdelhamid Sabiri's free-kick as the Belgians failed to learn from Hakim Ziyech's ruled-out goal. The Red Devils froze and Zakaria Aboukhlal picked them off to seal a famous win.

Sabiri gave Morocco the lead in the 73rd minute with a carbon-copy free-kick to Ziyech's earlier, except the opposite side.

Later, Aboukhlal found the back of the net in the stoppage time and stole the three points for Morocco. Belgium did not deal with Munir Mohamedi's goal-kick and the Toulouse forward fired into the roof of the net from Ziyech's cutback.

Morocco's win sent them top of Group F, a point above Belgium. They were undefeated in their last three World Cup games and look like a very hard team to beat. They have got a great chance of making it into the last 16. Belgium face an uphill struggle to qualify now as they face Croatia in their last group match.
