Kylian Mbappe scored a brace which helped France earn all three points as the defending champions defeated Denmark by 2-1 in their second group game at the 974 Stadium on Saturday. Meanwhile, they became the first team to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) man broke the deadlock in the 61st minute to make the scoreline 1-0 for Les Blues.

Lucas Hernandez charges up the pitch on the left side before feeding it to Mbappe who carried the ball confidently to the edge of the area. The Milan left-back continued his run and provided an option for a one-two pass that allowed the France number 10 to dispatch a tricky shot that beat Kasper Schmeichel.

However, Denmark took just seven minutes to find the equaliser as Andreas Christensen found the back of the net in the 68th minute of the match.

It was a typically dangerous corner kick from Eriksen who put his delivery right into the path of Joachim Andersen. The Crystal Palace centre-back managed to nod it across the face of the goal to Christensen who powered his header past Hugo Lloris.

However, Mbappe stole the show as he gave France the lead in the 86th minute. The movement of the PSG forward fooled both defenders at the far post and allowed him to meet Antoine Griezmann’s inswinging cross two yards from the goal to bundle it over the line.

France finish the group stage on Wednesday against Tunisia. Denmark are in action on the same day against Australia.
