Bangladesh’s cricket tour to Zimbabwe in June later is seriously in doubt because of the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the African country.

Some domestic cricket and unofficial Test between Zimbabwe A and South Africa A in Harare has been suspended following rising Covid-19 cases.

Even the lone Test match, three ODIs and as many T20s between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, scheduled to take place in July, also under cloud with Zimbabwe government and sports ministry advice against the staging of sporting events following increasing Covid-19 cases in the country.

But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is still hopeful that the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, likely to go ahead. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed that both boards are in talk over the future of the series.

“Zimbabwe government has stopped all kinds of sports as a result of the rise of Covid-19 cases. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has informed us that they are in talks with the government to continue cricket,” BCB CEO told the reporters on Monday.

“I spoke to their CEO this morning. He said they were in talks with the government to keep the series on and were optimistic. We have been in touch with them regarding this.”

Bangladesh squad was due to fly to Harare on June 29.
