Holders Abahani Limited produced an all-round performance to script a commanding 49-run victory over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20 clash on Monday.

Munim Shahriar, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s breezy half century and a late flurry by Mosaddek Hossain, followed by a clinical bowling display by pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana and spinner Arafat Sunny helped Abahani confirmed super league spot in fashion in a rain-curtailed match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Batting first after winning the toss, Abahani posted a colossal 181-4 in 20 overs with top scorer and player of the match Munim Shahriar (74) and Shanto (65) involved in substantial partnerships. Mosaddek provided some lusty blows in the last stage with a 15-ball 26.

The rain interrupted after innings break as Jamal were set to chase a revised target of 148 runs from 13 overs.

But Abahani pacer Rana continued his good form with ball by taking three wickets for 16 runs while left arm spinner Arafat Sunny took two wickets to restrict Jamal to 98 for eight in 13 overs.

Jamal could not recover from a top-order collapse during run chase and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals to slump to big defeat.

Bowler Mohammad Enamul (29) could only delay the inevitable.

Meanwhile, Gazi Group Cricketers pulled off a dominating nine-wicket triumph over Partex Sporting Club via D/L method in a rain-halted match at BKSP.

Needing 47 runs from 8 overs after rain interruption, the player of the match Mahedi Hasan smashed a 13-ball 33 as Gazi Group chased down the target with 15 balls to spare. Mahedi clubbed four sixes and a four in his blazing knock.

Earlier, Gazi Group bowlers produced discipline bowling to restrict Partex to 109 for 7 in 20 overs.

Mohiuddin Tareq claimed three wickets for 36 runs.

On the other hand, the match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Brothers Union at BKSP was called off due to rain while toppers Prime Bank Cricket Club retained the top spot by beating Old DOSH Sports Club by 22 runs.
