Mushfiq named ICC player of the month

Bangladeshi wicket-keeper and batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May 2021. He played one Test and three ODIs against Sri Lanka in the month of May. 

This is the first time a Bangladeshi cricketer became the ICC Player of the Month.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on June 8 announced the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Awards for May to recogniুe the best performances from all cricketers across all forms of international cricket.

Mushfiqur Rahim was nominated for this award for the first time. Pakistan's Hasan Ali and Sri Lanka's debutant Praveen Jayawickram were also on the list. 

The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman showcased his full class in the month of May. He scored 80 runs at an average of 40 in the first Test against Sri Lanka. 

Also in the ODI series against the same opposition, where he displayed his world-class ability with the bat, Mushfiqur scored 237 runs with an average of 79 and a strike rate of 88.43 in three matches.

The veteran's knock of 125 in the second match helped the hosts seal a first-ever ODI series victory against Sri Lanka. For his contributions, Mushfiqur has rightfully adjudged the Player of the Series.
