But why does the country’s one of the most dependable cricketer gets angry again and again? That is the question troubling everyone after the Mohammedan skipper Shakib made another headline for his involvement in yet another on-field altercation with the on-field umpire during high-voltage Dhaka Premier League (DPL) T20 clash against arch-rival Abahani Limited on Friday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Shakib, 34, who is currently leading Mohammedan, has a history of losing coolness and becoming a party to ugly exchanges and has been reprimanded and fined on several occasions for his ugly behaviour. On Friday, against defending champions Abahani in the seventh round match, he broke all the records in his previous ugly acts.

The first incident came when Shakib raised a strong appeal for an lbw against Abahani skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, but the umpire turned it down. Later, Shakib kicked the stump and started abusing the umpire.

However, a little letter when the rain was looming umpire asked the groundsmen to bring the covers, but Shakib could not accept it and become angrier. This time he came in and threw down the stumps before leaving the field.

In a rain-marred match, Mohammedan, who came to the match after suffering three successive defeats, finally found the winning touch as they thrashed Abahani by 31 runs via D/L method.

After Mohammedan posted 145 for 6 in 20 overs, Abahani were in deep trouble during the run chase as they were slumped to 9-3 in three overs.

After rain interruption, Abahani were offered to chase a revised target of 76 runs from nine overs. Under the D/L method.

However, Abahani were forced to stop at 44 for six in nine overs. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten on 18.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (15) and Mosaddek Hossain’s dismissal in crucial moment effectively closed Abahani’s slim chances to win the rain-hit game.

The player of the match Mohammedan’s Shuvagata Hom who caused the most problems, claimed three wickets for 17 runs.

Earlier after opting to bat first, Shakib top-scored 37 from 27 balls while Mahmudul Hasan contributed 30 runs as Mohammedan could manage a challenging total.
