Over 50 shanties gutted in Mohakhali slum fire

More than 50 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire at Sattola slum in the capital's Mohakhali area on Monday night.

Debashis Bardhan, deputy director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (Dhaka Division), said the fire originated at around 11:47pm and soon engulfed the adjoining shanties.

After one and a half hours of frantic efforts, 11 fire fighting units brought the fire under control, he added.

Fire Service's Director (Operation) Jillur Rahman said around 60 shanties were gutted till the fire was brought under control.

He, however, could not confirm how the fire originated but said a probe committee would be formed to investigate the incident.
