Two persons were killed and two others sustained injuries as oil tanker caught fire in Karnaphuli river of Chattogram early Thursday.

According to Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, the fire broke out from the engine room of MT Iravati-1 at Super Petro Chemical Jetty around 6:30am, leaving two persons of the oil tanker dead on the spot.

Besides, two persons, who sustained burn injuries, were sent to a local hospital, a fire fighter told the Business Insider Bangladesh, whoever failed to give further details including identities of the deceased.

On information, two firefighting unites and two ships of Bangladesh Navy rushed to the spot and doused the fire with their around two hours of fanatic efforts.

Newton Das, deputy assistant director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, told the media that the oil tanker came from Ashuganj, caught fire while people were engaged in unloading activities.
