Why Covid-19 infection rate declining?

Daily coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have been declining steadily over the past 10 days

Daily coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have been declining steadily over the past 10 days.

What are the reasons? Is the positivity rate decreasing because of the lockdown or for the vaccinations?

Prof Muzaherul Huq, former adviser, South-East Asia region, World Health Organization (WHO), and founder, Public Health Foundation of Bangladesh, said that the infection rate of the virus may come down steadily if health guidelines are followed.

The present declining trend of infection rate on the virus can be an outcome of the lockdown partially, he said while talking to the Business Insider Bangladesh on Monday.

Except in India, the mortality and infection rates of the virus are under control now in many countries in the world as they are strictly following the health guidelines with maintaining the social distancing rules.

Claiming the present declining trend of the virus as a good sign for Bangladesh, the expert said the people will have to be made aware of following the health guidelines.

Apart from this, around 12.50 crore people will have to be vaccinated within a specific time to halt the spread of the virus, he said.

while talking to this correspondent, Prof Dr Nazrul Islam, a member of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, said that no reason has yet been detected behind the declining trend of the infection in Bangladesh.

“We don’t know the reason. If it is an outcome of the lockdown, then it is a good sign for the country,” he said.

Earlier, the infection rate came down to 2 percent when there was no lockdown, Dr Nazrul said. “No one knows why that happened,” he said.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 97 more deaths and 3,306 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.

The death toll of the virus mounted to 11,150 while the caseload reached 7,48,628 in Bangladesh, said the DGHS.

The infection rate of the virus declined to 12.82 percent from Sunday’s 13.33 percent. The infection rate was 21 percent on April 15.

The updated official figures show mortality rate was 1.49 percent which was 1.48 percent on Sunday.
