Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who is playing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Comilla Victorians suffered a head injury during his side's practice session today at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattaogram.

The pacer was hit on the head by a shot of batter Matthew Ford when going back to his run-up. He was rushed to Imperial Hospital where scans were done on his head, however, to everyone's relief, there was no internal bleeding, Comilla management confirmed in a statement, reports BSS.

The pacer needed five stitches in the injured area and will be under observation for 24 hours more.

"During practice, a ball hit directly at the left parietal area (head) of Mustafizur Rahman. There was an open wound at his parietal area and we worked with a compression bandage to stop bleeding and immediately shifted him to Imperial Hospital," said a statement from Comilla Victorians, quoting its physio Zahidul Islam Sazal.

The statement added that the injury was only external and the pacer was under the supervision of the team physio.

"After the CT scan, we are satisfied that he had only external injury, there was no intracranial bleeding. Now surgical team has given him stitches for open wounds. Now he is under close supervision at Imperial Hospital under Neurosurgeons team," the statement said.

"His GCI scale is 15/15. Presently he is out of danger and hopefully, after 24 hours of observation period, we can take him to the team hotel," the Comilla management expected.

The hospital's neurosurgeon Dr Moinuddin Eliash also echoed the same, saying, "We did a CT scan and clinical examination of Mustafizur. His condition is stable now and he is out of danger according to the CT scan report."

"As it is a head injury, he will be kept in observation for 24 hours. We will conduct another CT scan after a few hours to check the injuries. He was given five stitches."

With the Sri Lanka series approaching fast, Mustafizur's injury is a blow to Bangladesh as the pacer has been the integral part of the team in white-ball cricket still despite ups and downs in his form of late.
