Germany earned a vital point against confident Spain as the Word Cup group-stage match between the four-time world champion and La Roja ended in a 1-1 draw at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday.

Spain were looking really sharp from the beginning but could not find the net in the first half. On the other hand, Germany took the lead but Antonio Rudiger’s goal was disallowed as he was in an offside position.

In the 62nd minute, Alvaro Morata broke the deadlock and made the scoreline 1-0 for Spain.

Jordi Alba was played in down the left flank by Sergio Busquets before lifting his head and crossing the ball to find Morata in the box. He timed his run to perfection before directing his first-time finish into the back of the net.

However, Germany came back into the game in the 83rd minute as Niclas Fullkrug equalised for his side. The substitute came steaming into the box, taking the ball off Jamal Musiala's toe before smashing it into the back of the net.

In truth, a draw is a fair result and keeps Germany alive heading into the final game of the group phase. Spain are top of Group E but have not yet confirmed their place in the Round of 16.

The final matchday of the group phase will take place simultaneously on Thursday. Spain face Japan while Germany lock horns with Costa Rica.
