Lionel Messi has confirmed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup which will be held in Qatar will be the last World Cup he participates in.

Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Thursday that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has said to journalist Sebastian Vignolo in an interview, “This will be my last World Cup — for sure. The decision has been made.”

Romano also mentioned, “Important to clarify again that Messi will not decide his future between PSG and Barça now or in the next weeks; it will be in 2023.”

The Argentine captain is highly considered one of the best ever to play the beautiful game. The Barcelona legend has won everything in the club competitions but his experience in the Argentine shirt was not the same.

However, back in 2021, he lifted the Copa America trophy after defeating their eternal rivals Brazil. Later in 2022, his side clinched the Finalissima trophy as well. This means the World Cup is the only trophy that Messi does not kiss yet.

The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar has made 164 appearances for La Albiceleste so far and netted 90 goals which is the highest in the South American region.
