Lionel Messi’s double and Julian Alvarez’s opener helped Argentina to beat Jamaica comfortably by 3-0 in an international friendly and extended their unbeaten run to 35 matches on Tuesday.

Argentina made eight changes from the side that beat Honduras 3-0 last time out, with Lionel Scaloni prioritising the rotation of his squad. Players like Messi and Rodrigo De Paul did not start the game and came off the bench in the second half.

However, it did not take long for the Albiceleste to find the back of the net as Alvarez scored in the 13th minute of the game and before the break the scoreline remained 1-0 for Argentina.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner stepped onto the pitch in the 56th minute and netted two goals. The second was his 90th goal in the Argentine shirt.

He doubled the lead in the 86th minute. It was a goal out of nowhere, with the captain getting onto the ball 25 yards from the target ahead of Johnson, taking a couple of touches to sort his feet out before dispatching a low effort into the bottom corner.

Just after two minutes, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star found the back of the net again as he wrapped his free-kick from 18 yards out low around the wall to catch the goalkeeper off-guard.

Argentina were not at their scintillating best but still managed to overcome Jamaica. They have one final tune-up game ahead of the World Cup - against the UAE on November 15.
