Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi batter to reach 8,000 ODI runs. He needed 57 runs to reach the milestone, he got there against Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday. However, after scoring 62 runs he walked back to the pavilion.

The left-hand batsman played 229 matches to reach this landmark. He has 14 centuries and 54 half-centuries under his belt with the highest score of 158 runs.

Tamim is the 33rd, only the fifth Asian batter and ninth opener to score 8,000 runs in the 50-over format. The other four Asian batters are - Sachin Tendulkar (India), Sourav Ganguly (India), Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) and Saeed Anwar (Pakistan).

The southpaw took 37 innings to reach 1,000 ODI runs. The next 1,000 runs came in 33 innings. He needed 32, 35, 21, 17, 29 and 23 innings to touch the milestones of 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000, 7,000 and 8,000 runs respectively.
