In a titans battle, six times Champions Dhaka Abahani Limited beat their traditional rival Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 4-2 goals in the 16th round match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Shaheed Direndranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Wednesday.
With the day's well-merited victory, the popular sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani keep their slim hope of title alive securing 35 points from 16 matches and remaining at the 2nd slot in the league table
After the day's defeat, Mohammedan SC struck at the 6th slot with 22 points from 16 matches.
Last two times champions Bashundhara Kings were already poised for the league crown for the 3rd time in a row as they comfortably dominated the league table securing 51 points from 16 matches with 13 wins, two draws and a defeat
The last year's match between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw in Cumilla.
In the day's match, all the six goals were scored in the first half.
Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes struck twice (10th, 45+5 minutes) Russian World Cup playing Costa Rica booter Daniel Colindres (8th minute) and Emon Mahmud (43rd minute) scored one each for Abahani
Malian booter Souleyman Diabate (18th minute) and Shahriar Emon (45+2 minute) netted for traditional black & white Mohammedan SC.
Ahahani Ltd were restricted to 10- Man in the 81st minute when their Rezaul Karim Reza got marching order after receiving double yellow cards.
In the day's other match, Bangladesh Police FC defeated Uttar Baridhara Club by 3-2 goals at the Rajshahi District Stadium on Wednesday.
Amiruddin Sharif scored twice for Police FC in the 13th and 51st minute while Danilo netted other goal for Police in the 48th minute.
Youssouf Mory Bamba and Evgenty Kochnev scored one each for Baridhara in the 72nd and 90+2 minutes respectively.
