Star batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored a century in a Test match against Sri Lanka last week, is going to miss Bangladesh's upcoming tour in West Indies as he decided to perform Hajj this year.

BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Younus confirmed the news to the media, saying that Mushfiqur applied for the leave for Hajj one month ago.

“About one month ago, he applied for leave to perform hajj. We had just granted his leave,” Younus said on Saturday.

“Earlier we thought he would be available for some part of the tour. But when he gave the letter we understood he will be off for the whole tour.”

This was another blow to Bangladesh for their aspiration to win the series in West Indies where they will play two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals.

Bangladesh are already unlikely to get the service of some key players like Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh earlier in 2018 won the ODI series but could not perform well in Test and T20 series.

Muahfiqur became the first Bangladeshi batter to reach a 5,00 runs milestone. But more notably he made the occasion remarkable by registering his eighth Test century.

With hitting the century against Sri Lanka in the first Test he got back to form. But missing him in the series against West Indies will be a blow for the Tigers.
