Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has tested negative for Covid-19, confirmed Minhazul Abedin, chief selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday.

Earlier on May 10, he tested positive for the virus and was ruled out of the first Test against Sri Lanka. But as the result came out negative, Shakib may play the match if the BCB medical team thinks he is fit.

The first Test is scheduled to start on May 15 in Chattogram. The second one will start on May 23 in Dhaka.

The southpaw did not play a single Test in 2022 so far. He did not play Tests against New Zealand. Later, Bangladesh toured South Africa for an ODI and a Test series. He played all three ODI matches but had to come back before the Test series as his family members were admitted to the hospital.
