Ronaldo breaks all-time record for most goals in competitive football

Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur at the Old Trafford on Sunday saw him become the game's all-time leading scorer, with 807 goals. 

Manchester United legend with his first two goals of the game, became the leading goal scorer in the history of the sport, surpassing football great Josef Bican.

Ronaldo helped United to take an early lead but Tottenham captain Harry Kane found the net from the spot-kick to make the scoreline 1-1.

But just after a few minutes, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner grabbed his second of the night. That simple tap-in goal helped to become the Fifa’s official all-time leading scorer with 806 goals.

Breaking down his tally, he scored 135 goals for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid, 101 for Juventus, 115 for Portugal and five for Sporting.

Ronaldo surpassed Bican, who had held the record since 1956. In 530 games played during his illustrious 25-year-long career, Bican scored 805 goals. It is claimed that Bican had scored over 1500 goals in his career, FIFA had recognised only 805 of those strikes.
