Tamim Iqbal will not play the two-match Test series against New Zealand due to his thumb injury, Cricbuzz reported on Tuesday. Bangladesh will take on New Zealand in January in a two-match Test series.

Earlier, he opted himself out from this year's T20 World Cup. Later he missed the home series against Pakistan and will miss two Test matches as well because of this injury.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told Cricbuzz, "He (Tamim Iqbal) met the physician and they have advised him to take a one-month rest though he won't require any surgery."

"In that case, he's missing the New Zealand tour," he added.

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal last played a Test match in 2021 against Sri Lanka. He picked up a knee injury during that tour of Sri Lanka.

The first Test against New Zealand will be held at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui from January 1 and the second one will be at Hagley Oval in Christchurch from January 9.
