The President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, on Monday expressed his cheer over the apex council’s announcement of a raise in the match fees of the Indian domestic players.
Domestic players, who have already played more than 40 matches will get Rs 60,000 while Under 23 players will get Rs 25,000 and Under 19 cricketers will earn Rs 20,000.
The apex council has also announced that the domestic cricketers, who were affected during Covid-19 pandemic, will be paid a 50-percent additional match fee as compensation for the disruption in the 2020-21 season. This remuneration will increase in the upcoming domestic season for both men and women cricketers.
Following this announcement, the BCCI head Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to share his joy over the payment increment while terming the domestic cricketers as a key to India’s prosperity at the international level.
Ganguly said in his tweet, “Very happy to have the raise in match fees of domestic players, men, and women, passed by the apex council today...They are always the key to India's success in cricket at the international level.”
Many domestic cricketers of India have been suffering financially by the hit of Covid-19 pandemic as Ranji Trophy was not held last year. Following that, the BCCI had formed a working committee to look into the compensation package of half of the total match fee.
