The Dhaka Premier League cricket, the most prestigious domestic cricket league in the country, is all set to begin on May 31.

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who missed the last four seasons of DPL, is set to play this season for Mohammedan Sporting Club. Even Shakib is expected to be paid the highest salary.

It is known that the policymakers of Mohammedan want to put the responsibility of the captaincy on the shoulders of Shakib.

"If Shakib comes to our team, I hope he will be the captain." Mohammedan cricket committee adviser Hanif Bhuiyan told media on Wednesday.

The top all-rounder Shakib has already joined Tigers' training camp in Mirpur ahead of their three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka after completing his quarantine.

The mandatory 14-day quarantine of Shakib and Mustafiz was relaxed to 12 days by the Ministry of Health.

The duo returned home from India on May 6 after taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was postponed at halfway through the tournament following the surge of Covid-19 cases in India.

Earlier, officials from the Mohammedan Sporting Club submitted a letter signed by Shakib Al Hasan in which the all-rounder expressed his interest in taking part in the domestic tournament.

Mohammedan Sporting Club is trying to do everything it can to acquire his services, subject to clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The DPL 2019-20 season’s League was postponed on March 19, 2020 after just one completed round of matches in compliance with measures taken to fight the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.

The competition will now have a fresh start and will be played in a T20 format instead of the usual 50 overs.

Mohammedan has never won a trophy since DPL gained List A status starting with the 2013–14 tournament. However, this time it wants to end trophy drought.
