Sri Lanka PM appointed acting president

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has just been appointed acting president, according to the parliament's speaker.
That official says President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed him of the appointment under Article 37.1 of Sri Lanka's constitution. However, there remains no direct word from Rajapaksa himself, reports the BBC.
All announcements in recent days have come from the parliament speaker and the prime minister's office.
