The Border Security Force (BSF) said on Saturday that the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura will be fencing to ensure complete security by 2022.

BSF Inspector General Sushant Kumar Nath said that more than 80 percent of the fencing work along the 856-km-long Indo-Bangladesh international border in Tripura has been completed, reports Bharat Times.

He also said that adequate fencing work has been completed last year in eastern sector of Tripura and remaining work on 31 km of porous patch has been taken up on priority, which has given impetus to single row fencing in the state. And 10 km of fencing has been done in last year.

Nath also said that along with the work of fencing, the work of installing floodlights is going on.

“We look forward to completing the fencing and floodlights across the entire India-Bangladesh border in the state by 2022,” he said.

He also said that 218 people have been arrested for crossing the international border, while confiscated material worth Rs 35.64 crore was seized last year.

BSF IG said that two militants of banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) surrendered before BSF on Saturday and one of them underwent arms training in neighbouring Bangladesh.
