Identities of 23 Sitakunda blaze victims revealed

The Chattogram district administration claimed to identify 26 bodies of victims in fire at Sitakunda on Saturday night. However, the administration revealed the names of 23.  

The administration control room revealed the information through a statement on Tuesday. 

As per the statement, the 23 identified deceased are – Moniruzzaman (50) of Cumilla, Habibur Rahman (23) of Bhola, Rabiul Alam (24) from Banshkhali upazilla, Mominul Haque (24) from Banshkhali upazilla, Mohiuddin (22) from Banshkhali, Tofayel Islam (22) from Banshkhali, Alauddin (35) from Noakhali, Md Solaiman from Sitakunda, Md Suman (28) from Noakhali, Ibrahim (27) from Jashore, Faruk Jamaddar (50) from Pirojpur, Harun-Or-Rashid (55) from Chattogram, Md Nayan (22) from Moulvibazar, Shahadat Hossain (29) from Chattogram, Shhadat Ullah Jamaddar from Feni, Md Riduan (25) from Banshkhali, Touhidul Islam (41) from Feni, Salah Uddin Qader Chowdhury (42) from Feni, Shakil Tarafder (45) from Khulna, Nipan Chakma (45) from Rangamati, Rana Mia (22) from Manikganj, Md Harun (55) from Chattogram and Ramzanul Islam Roni from Sherpur.          

On Tuesday, the firefighters recovered two more bodies from the fire at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram, taking the death toll to 44. 

Of the victims, one may be a firefighter and another one a security guard of the depot, Anisur Rahman, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chittagong Division, told the media on Tuesday noon.

BM Container Depot which handles export-import cargos is a joint venture of the Netherlands and Bangladesh.
