Govt to provide all-out support to fire victims, families: State minister

The government will provide all sorts of assistances to the victims and their families of Sitakunda fire incident.

Dr Md Enamur Rahman, MP, state minister for ministry of disaster management and relief, came up with the information while briefing the reporters at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda in Chattogram on Monday.

The state minister said, “As per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all-out support will be given to the victims and their families. Already, Tk 1 crore has been allotted for the immediate support of the victims.”

Mentioning that 41 bodies have been found so far, the state minister said, “Twenty-four bodies have been identified and 22 of them have been handed over to the victims’ families.”

Treatments of the victims were underway at different Chattogram hospitals, added the minister.

Among others, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, were present at the briefing.

The fire that broke out on Saturday night is yet to be controlled. Twenty-five firefighting units are working to bring the fire under control.   

Among the 15 victims admitted at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for better medical treatment, 10 of them are in critical conditions.
