The Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence has rescued nine bodies of firefighters and identified eight of them, who died at the fire incident that broke out Saturday night following an explosion at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda of Chattogram.

The identified deceased firefighters are – Rana Mia, Moniruzzaman, Alauddin, Shakil Tarafder, Mithu Dewan, Nipan Chakma, Ramjanul Islam, and Salah Uddin Qader Chowdhury, according to a statement.

It is worth mention that 12 firefighters went missing while taming the blaze at Sitakunda and over 300 people got injured in that fire.   

More than 200 injured have so far been taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).  

Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Faruk Hossain said as firefighters worked to put out the flame, there was a large explosion in one of the containers around 11pm, followed by a series of small ones, and since then the fire has been out of control.
