Bangladesh is now one of the top 10 export destinations for Pakistani products, Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh, has said.

He remarked in an interview recently with Anadolu Agency, a Turkey-based news agency.

Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh for FY 2020-21 was $721.67 million. Of which, Pakistan’s exports to Bangladesh were $650.21 million while imports stood at $71.45 million, according to him.

“Leaders of Bangladesh and Pakistan need to talk to work on materialising opportunities,” said the high commissioner.

He said there is a huge scope of trade and cooperation between the two countries.

Siddiqui was appointed Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh in February last year and since then he has met Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, and other senior ministers and business leaders in a bid to boost up bilateral relations.

Products that are exported to Bangladesh include cotton, yarn, and fabric etc.

India and Pakistan got independence from British rule in 1947 and now Bangladesh, then East Pakistan fell to Pakistan. Bangladesh became an independent nation through a bloody battle in 1971 when 30 lakh innocent Bengalees were killed by occupied Pakistani forces.
