Bangladesh has reported 228 more deaths and 11,291 infections from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning. The death toll was the second highest since the pandemic began in March last year.

With this, the number of deaths from the virus reached 19,274 while 11,64,635 patients have been diagnosed with the virus so far, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Earlier on Saturday, the country reported 195 deaths from the deadly virus.

Meanwhile, the infection rate was 30.04 percent in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning. The overall infection rate in the country currently stands at 15.62 percent.

DGHS further said that 10,584 patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours. The total number of recovered patients so far is 9,98,923 – which is 85.77 percent of the total infected.

During the last 24 hours, some 37,587 samples were tested across the country. A total of 74,55,281 samples have been tested in the country so far.

According to the Worldometer data, 194,555,165 cases of coronavirus have been detected worldwide as of Sunday afternoon. The number of deaths reached 4,171,368.

The US is the country with the most numbers of Covid-19 positive cases, followed by India, Brazil, Russia, France, and UK.

Among the 228 deaths, 69 hails from the Dhaka division, while 40 are from Chattogram, 21 from Rajshahi, 50 from Khulna, 6 from Barishal, 11 from Sylhet, 16 from Rangpur and 15 from Mymensingh division.

125 of the 228 dead are male while 103 are female. Only 14 died at home and the rest died while undergoing treatment at different government and private hospitals across the country.
